Brunch at Pastis

Saturday I finally did two things I've been wanting to do: brunch at Pastis and the Union Square Greenmarket.

Gail and I worked together in television in Huntsville 10 years ago. We've enjoyed reconnecting on Facebook and sharing "life after TV" career notes. She was in town for the weekend and wanted to introduce me to her friend Jennifer, a fellow Southern belle in the Big Apple.
When Gail asked if we would mind if she ordered the basket of baked goodies to start, I knew we were in for a good meal! We toasted the weekend with macerated strawberries and champagne.

I was going to get eggs Benedict with salmon but changed to the Eggs a la Basquaise because it seemed more unusual: poached eggs over creamy polenta with peppers, onions and proscuitto. Not exactly summer fare, but I enjoyed every mouthful!
Before I met the girls for brunch, I made a quick morning trip to the Union Square Greenmarket.
I told myself I wasn't in serious shopping mode but took some cash just in case... I picked up some swiss chard for $2, a $3 mini rhubarb pie and a $10 basil plant. Here's hoping Kurt and I can keep it alive long enough to get my money's worth!
