I couldn't help it! Leigh Ann knew Charlotte and the ins and outs of the company so much better than I did. Her helpful hints were a hit with all of my new colleagues. I now joke my sister has an accuracy rate of approximately 95%.
Anyway, for the past few weeks, my sister has said I need a new blog name. It's not that she dislikes Popcorn and M&Ms, just that it's hard to type into a browser because of all the dashes. "It's too complicated! You need to make it easier for people to find you," she said. "Look at Elyse. I saw the name of her blog, Pretty Happy Busy, one time, and I already remember it."
I think she's right. I love the reason why I called this blog Popcorn and M&Ms, and I do indeed savor the sweet and salty bits of life. Neverthless, I have come up with a few new names:
- Traveling Tomato -- captures my love of adventure and my rural roots (non-Quincy readers may not know my dad was a tomato farmer)
- Maps and Cheese -- get it? I really amused myself with this one.
- Passport Pork Chop -- these are a few of my favorite things...
- Pimento Postcard -- another nod to traveling and my Southern roots
Well, for the record, I still have some people who say things like... "OK, got it, 'Laughing, Happy, Busy' or "Cute, Happy, Pretty'. But, I do really like some of your new names. Honestly I like them all but the pork chop one, I guess I am more of a pork tenderloin gal. I think my #1 has to be.... well, I just can't decide! I really like the other three. Maybe we should bet on your sisters 95% record and let her pick. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat does Maps and Cheese mean? I like the sound of it, but I don't think I get it.
ReplyDeleteI thought Maps and Cheese was a play on Mac and Cheese, but I guess it's not as clever as I thought if you didn't get it! :-)
ReplyDeleteI like traveling tomato... although now I am also trying to think of other sweet/salty combinations you could use so that even if your blog title changed, the meaning would be similar...
ReplyDeleteI like the "Traveling Tomato"
ReplyDeleteRoaming with Raddishes, The Beet's Beat, Sassafras Safari, something with a play on butter and jelly beans...these are my thoughts. Please know that my southern self is beating me up for what I am about to say, but if you are trying to reach a broader audience, you might not want the title to be too colloquial southern. (Seriously, did I just say that?)
ReplyDeleteWhat about Sweet and Salty Bits? It doesn't totally walk away from your original.
ReplyDeleteNic, I considered something with sweet and salty in the first round but was worried it sounded like a porn site...
ReplyDeleteAlso If you select the option to choose a www. address without /blogspot, it just costs $10 a year. And the simple address popcornandmms.com and http://popcornandm&ms.com/ are available. It comes with a lynsley@popcornandm&ms.com email too. Just a thought... That is what I did and it is so easy to say the web address in one breath. If you choose one of the other names, I would still do this.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think think if you change Maps to "Map and Cheese" people would get the pun? I like it A LOT! :)
Lastly, when I think of you, I think of your blue and white china. You also see it on most of your blog posts. I have been trying to think of a title that goes with that, but none are short and to the point enough. You must blog about that china though.
I am just in love with that china!
I like #4!
ReplyDeleteLyns, I'm confused as to why people might think it's a porn site would be a hindrance. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI know Leigh Annie is almost always right...but it is really not that hard to find. I googled without the dashes and you were the first thing to pop up. If you do change, from your list I like the traveling tomato.
